Geothermal History

Geothermal technology is not new.

The first recorded geothermal system was a 1912 patent.

Groundwater heat pumps have been used successfully since the 1930s.

In the 1940s and 1950s the lack of suitable materials for closed loop piping slowed interest.

U.S. researchers began investigating geothermal closed loop systems again in the 1970s with the advent of plastic pipe, which is suitable for the application.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, geothermal systems are, “the most energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost-effective space conditioning systems available today.”

Installing a geothermal system is equal to planting one acre of trees or removing two cars from the road.

And the federal tax credit makes geothermal even more appealing – just ask your tax advisor.
